Mobile Ready Websites reformat content for the viewers screenGoogle’s announcement about mobile readiness is a potential windfall for mobile ready sites. The street name for the algorithm change is: Mobilegeddon.

“Starting April 21, (2015) we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”

In 2014, worldwide searches from mobile devices exceeded the number of searches from desktop & laptop computer. In an continuing effort to deliver content, Google is requiring site to display correctly on all devices. What is the penalty for non-compliance? You won’t show up in searches from mobile devices. If you do, you will be ranked below sites that have passed the mobile friendly test. You can see if your sites is ready: Google’s Mobile Ready Test Just enter your URL on the mobile test page (right) and see if Google thinks your site is ready. The real acid test is to grab the right ‘border’ of your browser and pull it toward the left, squeezing the page smaller and smaller. See at what size your website fails to render correctly. (For those of you using Firefox with the developer options installed, I will launch a special mobile page where you can specify the exact size of the device you want to emulate.)

Are you ready to capitalize on this opportunity? Change brings opportunity to sites that can adapt. Every site we develop is fully responsive and will display correctly to a width of (at minimum) 479 pixels. Above this width, 99% of all handheld devices will render correctly.
